Cambodia Football Team U22 lost first game in Southeast Asian game 2017

The Philippine football teams went two-for-two on the opening day of the 2017 Southeast Asian Games football tournament, with the men's team defeating Cambodia, 2-0, while the women's team bested hosts Malaysia, 2-1, Tuesday evening in Kuala Lumpur.


After a slow start at the Selayang Municipal Council Stadium, the Philippine men's team found their groove in the second half of action, with FEU standout Reymart Cubon scoring the Pinoys' first goal of the match, making good on a corner from reigning UAAP MVP and Ateneo star Jarvey Gayoso.

With less than ten minutes left in regulation, JPV Marikina's Kouichi Belgira provided the finishing touches with a perfect free kick that sailed past the Cambodian wall and straight into the back of the net.

Man of the Match honors went to keeper RJ Joyel of FEU, who anchored the Philippine defense all match long, including a save in stoppage time that ensured the shutout of Cambodia.
